To carry out an evaluation of the prevailing situation regarding the completion of the lifting of Title 42 and publicize the measures adopted by the federal government, the general director of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of Mexico, Vanessa Calva Ruíz, seen the border region.

At a press conference, in which the Consul General of Mexico in El Paso, Mauricio Ibarra Ponce de León, was present, the federal official in charge of the issue of protection of Mexicans worldwide said that she held a series of meetings with officials from both sides of the border in order to learn about the repatriation procedures for Mexicans.

“I want to share with you the actions of assistance and consular attention where our main objective is that the Mexican people have all the information now that Title 42 ends,” said the federal official during the press conference held at the consular headquarters in El Passed.

He expressed that for the government of Mexico, the defense of the rights and interests and well-being of all Mexicans outside the country is a priority, regardless of their migratory, socioeconomic, origin, sexual life and gender orientation situation.

He reiterated that the main objective is that the Mexican people have all updated, safe and reliable information before the end of this public health measure, which expired on May 11 at 9:59 pm El Paso time.

And that also allows not only to reinforce and recognize the work that the consulates do on a daily basis, but also to have a local and direct pulse to know what are the adjustments that have to be made as these days go by.

“What we have seen right now is that the situation is not overwhelmed… if there are many concerns, there are many questions as it should be and hence the possibility that we find these communication channels to be able to send these updated messages,” he said after mentioning the talks held with officials of the Border Patrol and the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency and other authorities.

He indicated that based on the characteristics of each of the constituencies, visits to detention centers will be carried out and the same will identify those vulnerable people who require repatriation processes or support, as well as knowing what the immigration authorities are going to do. those requirements that apply at border points to be able to transmit it clearly and immediately to the Mexican population.

He added that in order to offer a range of services to obtain official documents, legal advice, and preventive messages about the risks posed by crossing the border illegally, as well as being careful with criminal organizations, information will be available at the consular offices.

He also maintained that the Center for Information and Assistance to Mexicans -CIAM-, specialized in calls that, in addition to preventive functions, serves as a point of first contact between the Mexican population that requires consular assistance and the Mexican representations in the United States, will be at your disposal.

He explained that CIAM’s objective is to provide a 24-hour human, professional, and timely response to the needs of our compatriots through the Consular Network of Mexico in the United States, comprehensively guiding requests for consular services, current affairs migration, prevention and consular protection, in full accordance with the commitments of the Government of Mexico to protect the interests of Mexicans abroad.
