After years of stagnation and freezing, the automotive file in Algeria continues to advance and to know progress, since last October, when the President of the Republic gave a big boost, by announcing the green light for importing vehicles less than 3 years old. A few days later, the Ministry of Industry in turn announced the signing of an agreement with the Italian brand Fiat, for the opening of a car assembly plant in Oran.
From this, the good news followed one another and the automotive sector is experiencing twists and turns that are delighting the Algerian consumer. Indeed, according to several sources after signing with Fiat, several other brands will also settle in Algeria.
A few days ago Mustapha Zebdi, the head of the Algerian Organization for Consumer Protection (APOCE) gave more information through his official Facebook account.
He had noted that two temporary authorizations for the importation of cars will be given next week. In the publication shared on the social network we can read: “The issuance of two temporary licenses for the import of cars at the beginning of next week”. In addition, a temporary license will be granted for a brand of motorcycle.
When will these new vehicle import authorizations be granted?
This same official spoke yesterday, Monday, January 9 on Dz News TV, informing that the issuance of temporary licenses for the importation of four-wheeled vehicles will take place during the week. Also indicating that it concerns a European car brand and another Asian one.
In addition, Zebdi gave explanations relating to the procedure for the importation of new vehicles, affirming that the document delivered by the Ministry of Industry would not be sufficient to be able to proceed with the importation of these vehicles, therefore the holder of the temporary authorization should obtain approval.
To conclude, Mustapha Zebdi, the head of APOCE revealed that the operation relating to the allocation of these authorizations should be done within a month, for the benefit of applicants fulfilling the required conditions in this area.
