Ángel Di María, one of the Argentines in the Vecchia Signora

The Juventus club, which has the Argentines Ángel Di María and Leandro Paredes, world champions in Qatar 2022, was sanctioned by the Federal Court of Appeals of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), after the reopening of the case, with the discount of fifteen points for having tampered with their balances in a legal case called “Case Capital Gains”.

“Juventus is sanctioned with 15 penalty points to be met in this football season,” the FIGC reported.

The FIGC Prosecutor’s Office had requested nine sanction points for the Turin club but the ruling increased it to fifteen, so it will remain in the middle of the Serie A table, with 22 units, along with Bologna and Empoli.

In addition, the court ruling imposed heavy sanctions on former Juventus officials with suspensions of two and a half years for former sports director Fabio Patatici, currently at Tottenham, and two years for former president Andrea Agnelli, who resigned this week.

Given the sanction, Juventus has the possibility of appealing to the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) since the measure compromises its chances of finishing in the top four of Serie A, to be able to play the next Champions League championship.

Juventus was the main accused of having increased the sale price of several players to register capital gains that allowed their accounts to be validated.

The Turin club is also under judicial investigation for possible accounting fraud to artificially limit its losses in the balance sheets presented to investors.

The Argentines Ángel Di María and Leandro Paredes, world champions in Qatar 2022, are part of the Italian team’s squad, together with their compatriot Matías Soulé.

Juventus is the winningest team in the Italian championship with 36 conquests, in addition to holding 14 Italian Cups, 2 Intercontinental Cups, 2 Champions Leagues, 3 UEFA Cups and 9 Italian Super Cups.
