Starting next week, parents who owe alimony will not be able to process their Mexican passport.

When the reforms and additions are published in the morning edition of the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), parents who are giving alimony to their children will have to present the certificate of non-registration in the National Registry of Food Obligations as one more requirement. to the series of official documents that they have to present for issuance.

This new requirement only applies to people who are in charge of minors and provide them with alimony, as indicated by the new guidelines for the procedure.

In the publication of the DOF, the National Registry of Alimony Obligations was established, “whose purpose is to concentrate the information of debtors and creditors of alimony obligations, in order to provide effective protection and restitution of the rights of children and adolescents,” according to with article 135 Bis of the aforementioned law.

Article 135 Sexties establishes that the authorities of the three orders of Government, within the scope of their powers, will provide what is necessary in order to establish as a requirement the presentation of the certificate of non-registration in the National Registry of Alimentary Obligations.

In April, at the national level, Juárez went from being the 14th place to the fourth place in registered cases of people who do not provide alimony to their dependents in March 2023, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

According to open crime incidence data, Juárez registered 56 cases in March compared to 24 in February, which represents an increase of 133 percent and places the border municipality below Toluca, Querétaro and the municipality of Chihuahua, which has the first place in non-compliance with family assistance obligations.
