Chinese component manufacturer Waveshare has launched a new e-ink display powered by NFC.
The Waveform-Screen with a diagonal of 7.5 inches has neither a power connection nor a battery. He solves 800×480 pixels on, the energy necessary for the switching is over NFC provided.
Over a Smartphone-App (Android and iOS) the display can be supplied with content and you can also switch between content and displays or adjust them. Colored representations are not possible on the display. The switching time gives the waveform 5 seconds at. So it’s quite high.
The screen is best suited for static content, such as shelf labels in retail or labels on devices or for displaying sensor data. However, not all NFC modules are compatible with the display Notebookcheck. Also with Samsung-Smartphones the display works according to the manufacturer not. It is available immediately for a price of just under 75 Euro.
