The “Harry Potter” saga is a cult film production. It has marked millions of viewers around the world and continues to be fondly remembered by the general public. However, not all of its actors were encouraged to be part of this series of tapes. One of them is the late Alan Rickman, the actor who ended up giving life to “Severus Snape”. Find out how they convinced him.

Undoubtedly, many of us remember the British interpreter for his role as the potions teacher who always imposed a bit of fear on his students, although for the artist to accept the character the entire production had to work on threatening him.

In an interview with “AV Club”, Chris Columbus, director of the first two “Harry Potter” films, told how the process was to finally convince Rickman that he was the one for the role.

THIS IS HOW THEY CONVINCED ALAN RICKMAN TO BE “SEVERUS SNAPE” IN THE HARRY POTTER SAGA

Chris Columbus explained that after thinking of Alan Rickman as Severus, the actor did not want to play him because he did not want to be typecast as another villain, since in almost his entire career he had done this type of role.

“I remember well that producer David Heyman and I had meetings with him. We went out to dinner with Richard Harris to convince him, and the same with Maggie Smith (…), with Alan Rickman too, and he was reluctant because he didn’t want to be typecast as a villain after having acted in the movie Die Hard and, I suppose, than after Robin Hood, prince of thieves”, he expressed.

Because neither convinced Alan, Columbus discussed the situation with JK Rowling, who met with the actor.

“JK Rowling took him to dinner and told him something about what was going to happen with Snape throughout the franchise and especially in the seventh book (…) So when we were on set, he would make small gestures on his acting that I couldn’t understand where it came from or its reason for being. He’d come up to me afterwards and ask him, ‘What was that?’, and he’d say, ‘Oh, you’ll know when you read the seventh book.’ And I was like ‘Okay, but that doesn’t help me now that I’m on the first movie,’” the director said.
