Joker: Folie à Deux has taken its first look at Lady Gaga as harley quinn. While the DCEU is coming to an end and the DC Universe is booming, Warner Bros. Discovery continues to focus on its ‘Elseworlds’ properties.
The Joker franchise, which takes place outside of DC’s main film continuity, is moving forward with a sequel currently in the works. Starring Joaquin Phoenix as DC’s titular foe, Joker: Folie à Deux will continue to explore the life of Arthur Fleck.
Todd Phillips, director of Joker (2019), returns for the second installment, which will hit theaters in 2024. Filming officially began in December 2022 and is expected to last a few more months.
One of the most anticipated elements of Joker: Folie à Deux is the introduction of ‘the new’ Harley Quinn, with the famous Lady Gaga in the role of the iconic villain.
Yesterday, to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Phillips shared a first look at Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux. In the photo she is seen facing the Phoenix Joker, presumably somewhere in Arkham Asylum.
Since Gaga’s Harley is an Elseworlds version of the DC icon, there will obviously be comparisons to Margot Robbie’s version in the DCEU. Until now, Warner Bros. Pictures has kept many details of the story under wraps, most notably Gaga’s Harley.
Unlike the first movie, Joker: Folie à Deux will be a musical and psychological adventure. The popular theory is that the title Joker: Folie à Deux, which refers to a mental disorder, will serve as the cause of the musical setting. Based on the translation of the title, it’s possible that the movie takes place largely from Harley’s point of view.
