A company from Israel allegedly offers a kind of “full service” to manipulate elections with disinformation and hacking. This is reported by the media from an international research network, which has shown the alleged abilities of the so-called “Team Jorge”. According to ZDF, a representative hijacked Telegram accounts live during a presentation and demonstrated software that can create credible but false accounts in social networks in a particularly simple manner. In addition, the two-factor authentication via SMS is apparently also being leveraged. There are over 30,000 avatars that can be used for campaigns. A total of 33 elections were manipulated and 27 campaigns were successful.

A research team from the EPFL Polytechnic in Lausanne has developed a system that can make complicated and expensive tracking systems for drone orientation unnecessary. Instead of cameras, lidar and other sensors, their system relies on sound-based echolocation with piezo buzzers and microphones as sensor replacements. The team took bats as a model and developed navigation algorithms that evaluate the volume of the reflected signals in real time. The researchers are even of the opinion that the propeller noise of the drones could also be used instead of the buzzer signals. That would further reduce cost and weight. However, further research is needed for this.

Unknown attackers are currently targeting three vulnerabilities in Microsoft 365 and Windows. The complexity and rights for a successful attack are rated low for two of the vulnerabilities. If attacks are successful, attackers could, in the worst case, execute malicious code with system privileges and thus completely compromise the computer. Several Windows server versions are also affected. Security patches are available through Windows Update.

The UFOs shot down over North America over the weekend may have been related to commercial or scientific activity and were “benign”. In any case, according to the White House, that is now the preferred explanation of the US secret services. However, a spokeswoman said that they did not want to anticipate the results of the analyses. The salvage of the objects turns out to be difficult due to the inaccessible terrain. So far, nobody has reported and claimed the objects for themselves. In view of the military reaction, however, someone could simply fear possible consequences.
