Os Squishmallows, which became a sensation thanks to TikTok, joined the business empire Warren Buffett, American investor and philanthropist, informs Reuters.
The plush toys are manufactured by the company Jazwares, owned by Judd and Laura Zebersky, who got married in 1993.
“I’ve really loved pop culture since I was a kid. I’ve been into comic books and toys, and I’m also an artist – not a very good one. I looked at my wife and said, ‘I want to make toys.’ your dreams’, and that’s what I did,” said Judd, in an interview at an annual weekend for shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N), quoted by the news agency. Judd is CEO of Jazwares and Laura is president.
In 2021, Jazware’s sales exceeded a billion dollars, more than 900 million euros, and 40% of these came from Squishmallows.
According to Reuters, Berkshire bought Jazwares’ parent, insurance holding company Alleghany Corp, in October last year, and, in a statement, Buffet said that “Jazwares is a gem”.
It should be noted that, currently, there are more than 2,000 Squishmallows, each with its own name, date of birth and biography. The toy became a sensation on the social network TikTok, when fans shared their collections, some very well known, such as Kim Kardashian or Lady Gaga.
