He Hoy No Circula has been applied in central Mexico since 1989while the Saturday version of this vehicle restriction program was implemented in 2008.
The program aims lower levels of environmental pollution in the Valley of Mexico through a comprehensive program based on the restriction of vehicle circulation between Monday through Friday, as well as on Saturdays.
The application of this Saturday program in the capital and the Mexican entity is somewhat different from the one used during the week.
Whether or not a car can circulate on a Saturday in the metropolitan area depends on your hologram and the completion of your plate if it is even (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0) or odd (1, 3, 5, 7 and 9).

As with weekdays, double zero, zero hologram, electric and hybrid cars do not participate in the program.
Hoy No Circula Sabatino applies with the same restrictions as the regular one, starts at 5:00 a.m. and ends until 10:00 p.m..
In Mexico City it is applied in the 16 municipalities: Azcapotzalco, Álvaro Obregón, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Milpa Alta, Tlalpan, Tláhuac, Venustiano Carranza and Xochimilco.
While in the State of Mexico it is applied in 18 suburban municipalities: Atizapán de Zaragoza, Coacalco de Berriozábal, Cuautitlán, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Chalco, Chicoloapan, Chimalhuacán, Ecatepec de Morelos, Huixquilucan, Ixtapaluca, La Paz, Naucalpan de Juárez, Nezahualcóyotl, Nicolás Romero, Tecámac, Tlalnepantla de Baz, Tultitlán and Valle de Chalco.
As previously stated, the Today does not circulate Saturday It is not used the same as during the week and its operation depends on your hologram and the completion of your plateas well as the number of Saturday that is in the month.
For example, cars with hologram 1 and whose last digit of the license plate is oddthey will not be able to circulate the first and third Saturday of each month.
While vehicles with hologram 1 and whose last digit of the license plate is even they will not be able to circulate the second and fourth Saturday of each month.
If a month were to have a fifth saturdaythat day the restriction will reach only those cars with hologram 2, foreigners and with permits. In the same sense, the rest of the cars, including those with a hologram 1, are exempt from Hoy No Circula Sabatino.
The only day that Hoy No Circula is not valid for any car is Sunday, that day is excluded from all kinds of restrictions.
Sometimes, the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) suspends the application of Hoy No Circula mainly on holidays, non-working days, mandatory rest days or vacation seasons.
In contrast, the CAMe can also apply a double Hoy No Circula, where vehicle restrictions are extended, this is mainly caused by poor air quality in the Valley of Mexico.
Both in Mexico City and in the State of Mexico the vehicle should be checked twice a year and the date to do it depends on the completion of the plates and the gumming.
This is the verification calendar for the two semesters of 2023:
First semester:
January and February: plates ending 5 and 6 (yellow gum).
February and March: plates ending 7 and 8 (pink gummed).
March and April: plates ending 3 and 4 (red gum).
April and May: plates ending 1 and 2 (red gum).
May and June: plates ending in 9 and 0 (blue gummed).
Second semester:
July and August: plates ending 5 and 6 (yellow gum).
August and September: plates ending 7 and 8 (pink gummed).
September and October: plates ending 3 and 4 (red gum).
October and November: plates ending 1 and 2 (green gum).
November and December: plates ending 9 and 0 (blue gummed).
