The Tomb Raider franchise is going to try roguelite for the first time in its history with a new one announced for this month and not on any date.
The Tomb Raider license is still in danger of changing hands. According to the latest rumors, Embracer Group, new owner of the franchise, would have sold the complete rights to Amazon for the trifle of 600 million dollars. If the information is yet to be confirmed, a long-forgotten game resurfaces. Announced when the license was still in the hands of Square Enix, Tomb Raider Reloaded is still alive and well.
Tomb Raider goes roguelite
Tomb Raider Reloaded will be released on Valentine’s Day and Miss Croft’s birthday, February 14, 2023, on iOS, Android and Netflix Games. This original concept mobile game was announced in 2020 but its future was uncertain since the license was obtained by Embracer Group. This new appetizer while waiting for the next game under Unreal Engine 5 is presented as a roguelite where Lara Croft will try to obtain an ancient artifact. This will be no small feat and players will be faced with constantly changing rooms with a whole host of traps and enemies waiting for them. Puzzles, weapons and random abilities will also be in the game.
Fans will find emblematic places of the Tomb Raider license such as the Monument of Saint Francis or even The Lost Valley. A few familiar faces will make an appearance, including Anaya Imanu and Werner Von Croy, Lara Croft’s former mentor and her butler Winston, who apparently finally managed to get out of the fridge. In addition, it has been confirmed that the adventurer will be voiced by Keeley Hawes, who has already played the heroine in several games. Those interested can already pre-register on the Google Play Storewhich will allow them to obtain an exclusive bonus: a golden version of Lara’s two pistols.
In licensing news, a Tomb Raider series by Amazon Prime Video has been confirmed with Phoebe Waller-Bridge at the helm. The American giant would see things very big for this new adaptation and would plan a project as big as its series The Lord of the Rings and as crazy as the MCU.
