Too good to be true? DACO monitors theme park ticket deals

The interim secretary of the Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO), Lisoannette González Ruiz, announced this Monday the start of a virtual operation focused on the sale, through social networks, of ticket offices for parks such as Disney and Universal, as well as that the sale of alleged hotel packages at extremely reduced prices.

“Over the past few weeks we have received information about certain pages on the Facebook social network marketing hotel stay packages in the Orlando, Florida area at extremely low prices. We’ve even seen stays between $50 and $99 for two nights and three days, including tax. This type of advertisement raises many doubts, in addition to the prices they promote, there is the issue of the validity of these offers, which is why this week our inspectors are evaluating these pages and advertisements,” González Ruiz stated in a press release.

“Similarly, serious doubts have been raised about the sale of entrance ticket offices to parks in Orlando, such as the Disney and Universal parks, among others. Data has reached us that on social networks there are virtual personalities who market ticket offices for these facilities from $99 for two days. When the average at any Disney park is $109 a day. The same is the case with tickets for Universal parks. These ‘tickets’ are purchased directly with the holders of the parks, not through third-party resellers not authorized by these companies”, added the head of DACO.

As explained by the DACO Secretary, the operation, called ‘Virtual Transparency’, will be carried out by each of the five regional offices of the agency (Arecibo, Caguas, Mayagüez, Ponce and San Juan).

“We call on all consumers to review these offers very well before sending any type of personal information, such as names, address and / or social security number, among others. Our inspectors will review this week everything corresponding to these pages to see if it violates any agency regulations, as well as current laws. We are going to defend the rights of consumers always ”, he maintained.

To conclude, González Ruiz called on consumers to inform the agency of this new modality of marketing tickets and hotel stays through the DACO pages on the social networks of Facebook and Twitter (DACO in your favor), as well as than the agency’s Internet portal: daco.pr.gov.
