In 2022 the Final Fantasy series turned 35: it was in fact December 18, 1987 when the progenitor made his debut in Japan, to then become a global phenomenon in the following years thanks to many sequels, re-editions and spin-offs of great success.

Final Fantasy VI
The 1994 masterpiece is still regarded today as one of the best JRPGs of all time. If the sixth episode is the high point of the classic 2D series, it is with Final Fantasy VII that a decisive revolution takes place that will change the future of Final Fantasy forever. 
Not only for the first time a game in the series is not released on consoles Nintendo, with the then Square that opted for the Sony PlayStation, but you switch to a 3D setting and change the tones and atmospheres of the game world, up to that moment more linked to medieval contexts to embrace a scenario that cleverly mixes modernity, fantasy and futuristic concepts. What hasn’t changed is the masterful quality of the work: gameplay, story and characters can be considered immortal to all intents and purposes, helping to make the brand famous and loved all over the world.
Final Fantasy X
After having written pages of gaming history with games published on PlayStation, the advent of Playstation 2 it is the occasion for other important news for the brand. In addition to an even more cinematic cut than previously seen, for the first time a Final Fantasy game is dubbed, giving even more emotional depth to the plot and dialogues.
Final Fantasy X was perhaps more linear than its predecessors, but it still managed to conquer the hearts of the fans by proposing all the typical characteristics of the brand in the best form: memorable characters and narrative developments mix with turn-based gameplay that offers an even more reasoned and complex to fights. But it must be said that there are several other games in the series that would make a splendid impression on such a podium. Classics like Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX fully deserve an honorable mention, and we must not forget spin-offs of the highest level such as Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Tactics, the latter has become iconic among strategic RPGs. And what to say about Final Fantasy XIII which, thanks to the reissue A Realm Reborn and the numerous expansions, has established itself among the most loved and played MMORPGs ever? The hope is that in this list of big names can also join Final Fantasy XVIas soon as it lands on Playstation 5 in June 2023.
