Good morning, dear reader,

what do France, Belgium, Great Britain, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have in common? All of these countries continue to rely on nuclear power plants for their electricity mix. Not because nuclear power plants are problem-free, just think of nuclear waste. But because nuclear power is the lesser evil compared to other energy sources such as coal and gas and can serve as a bridging technology, at least for a while.

People think differently in this country: This Saturday, Germany will finally phase out nuclear power, and the last three reactors will be shut down. Are we that much smarter than all the other Europeans? Is the German exit plan working or are we making a historic mistake? Are large-scale power blackouts looming soon, and what is the real reason that the traffic light government is pulling through the exit by hook or by crook despite the energy crisis?

My colleagues Sonja Eichert, Lisa Fritsch and I talk about this in today’s podcast. Please listen.
