Traffic accidents continue to swell in our Region a sad statistic.
Yesterday, the number of people killed in road accidents that have occurred so far in 2023 in La Plata, Berisso and Ensenada increased again with two fatal accidents that occurred in Barrio Hipódromo and in a sector of Abasto.
Thus, in just 15 days eight people have already died in traffic accidents.
Although it can be interpreted as cold and even insensitive data, detailing that, on average, one death is occurring every 45 hours can lead to reflection on the level of recklessness that prevails in the streets.
The alarming thing is that these accidents have occurred in the height of the summer, a time of the year in which the volume of vehicles is significantly reduced with both work and school vacations. However, the inertia of road tragedies seems to dominate the streets of the Region.
These two deaths take place one day after the report published by this newspaper in its Sunday edition, in which reference was made to the doubling of the number of fatalities in road accidents compared to the same period in 2022.
Undoubtedly, this 2023 had a terrifying start to the year compared to last year when the eighth fatality was just registered on February 23.
In this sense, if one projects the acceleration of tragic events, it is highly probable that the total number of victims could exceed the records of the previous season, which closed at 71.
In this devastating context, yesterday it was learned that two men were added to this list of fatalities, who lost their lives in various circumstances.
As this newspaper was able to find out, the first tragic episode occurred yesterday morning in a sector of the Barrio Hipódromo. A bus on the East line that was heading towards Ensenada and a private vehicle that was traveling in the direction of the train station collided in the morning at the intersection of diagonal 80 and 118.
The collision was of such magnitude that the Fiat Mobi, whose driver had not yet been identified as of press time, overturned. Meanwhile, the large vehicle was left without a bumper and with some damage to optics.
Product of the strong impact, the car was particularly destroyed and its driver, unfortunately, died. Meanwhile, some people who were traveling in the bus were treated for some bruises that were not serious for their health.
What happened was followed by a large-scale operation that included police vehicles from the Second Police Station, SAME ambulances and a fire crew, since they had to work on the body of the Fiat with hydraulic scissors to cut the twisted iron and remove the interior body.
