A minor and a woman were taken to a Pennsylvania burn hospital, while four other people remain missing as the explosion at a home in Franklin Township, New Jersey, is investigated Thursday morning.

The incident was reported to have taken place in the 300 block of Northwest Boulevard at about 10:35 am in the Buena Vista neighborhood.

Apparently all those affected are members of the same family with a visiting friend included.

According to police chief Matt DeCesari, the entire block was evacuated and deprived of utilities as work is carried out at the scene. He explained that so far they are treating the investigation as a criminal one.

The police, firefighters and the prosecutor assigned to that area of the Garden State are involved in the matter, while ATF personnel arrive to contribute to the investigation.

“This is frankly tragic and because this is a small community, what happens to one happens to all,” De Cesari said.

The official said that “two to three” houses surrounding the one that exploded were affected in terms of the facade, but no one in those structures was injured.

He could not specify at the moment the gender of the infant transferred by air ambulance to Pennsylvania, nor describe the missing persons. “This is an ongoing investigation and I don’t feel in a position to discuss those details yet.”
