Bundesliga team Hertha BSC strengthened their storm shortly before the end of the winter break. Attacker Florian Niederlechner is moving from FC Augsburg to Berlin with immediate effect, as the Berliners announced on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old has signed a contract until 2025. Neither club made any statements about a possible fee. According to media reports, it should be in the lower six-digit range.

“We are glad that we were able to implement the change planned for the summer at short notice during this transfer period,” said Hertha’s sporting director Fredi Bobic. Niederlechner had already been filmed on Tuesday at the Berlin office. The Upper Bavarian has played in Augsburg since 2019 and scored 23 goals in 89 league games. He has scored four times in 14 Bundesliga games this season.

The striker fits well into the system of Hertha coach Sandro Schwarz, partly because of his strong work in counter-pressing, who now has a new alternative to striker Wilfried Kanga after the departure of Davie Selke.

As a good template provider, Niederlechner could also appear together with Kanga. According to the “Bild” (Tuesday), Niederlechner is said to be suffering from a thigh injury and is not yet ready for action. (dpa)
