Essen.
A trio of thieves were caught in Essen main station. The loot was in prepared bags: they were supposed to outsmart the security systems in the shops.

With specially prepared bags, a trio went on a thieving spree on Sunday evening (April 30) in Essen’s main train station – and was caught a little later by federal police officers. Only the search for the prey took a little longer.

Drugstore employees pursued the thieves

At around 6:30 p.m., a drugstore employee in Essen’s main train station alerted the federal police: He was just pursuing three suspected thieves. In the east tunnel of the train station, the emergency services met the witness, who explained to them that the suspects could be found on a platform. In fact, the three suspected thieves (40, 43, 48) came down the stairs from platform 1 moments later and the drugstore employee recognized them immediately.

The federal police officers then stopped the woman from Gelsenkirchen and the two men from Dortmund and Lünen and checked them. All three had a history of property crimes, but now they had no stolen goods with them.

The bags with the loot were on platform 1

The federal police officers found this suspicious, which is why they searched the platform where the alleged thieves had been shortly before. In fact, the officers found several bags with various goods from the drugstore and from a fashion jewelry store, which is also located in the station building. The bags had been prepared in such a way that theft detectors at the entrances and exits of many shops would not react to stolen goods inside.

The stolen goods are worth more than 500 euros

A later video evaluation showed that the woman and the two men had placed the “special bags” filled with the stolen goods on the platform. The stolen goods had a total value of more than 500 euros.

The federal police officers took the suspects to the police station and initiated investigations into particularly serious theft.
