Trump and Nauta plead "not guilty" to new charges against them over secret documents

Former President Donald Trump and his personal assistant, Walt Nauta, have pleaded “not guilty” to new charges against them for mishandling classified documents.

The reading of charges against Carlos de Oliveira, the other defendant, was not possible, because he does not have a lawyer in Florida to represent him in the Southern District Court in the state.

The hearing for De Oliveira will be on August 15, while Trump and Nauta again plead “not guilty”, the first through his lawyer and the second in court.

Former President Trump had asked the court not to attend the hearing, he had previously pleaded “not guilty” to new charges, but this Thursday his lawyers made the position formal.

Trump, Nauta and de Oliveira are accused of multiple related crimes, because the former president allegedly illegally withheld classified documents after leaving office, including classified material.

Both Trump and Nauta were indicted in June, while De Oliveira was added as a co-defendant in July, along with new charges against Trump and Nauta.
