Trump believes Kamala Harris will be easier to defeat than Biden

PALM BEACH — Former President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, welcomed the resignation from re-election announced by President Joe Biden and assured that Biden’s possible successor, Kamala Harrisit will be easier to defeat.

“He’s the worst president in the history of our country, by far,” Biden said in a telephone conversation with CNN.

The agonizing performance of a hesitant, imprecise and weakened Biden during the June 27 debate in Atlanta against his great rival, former President Trump, provoked from that moment on a flood of doubts within the party about the current president’s ability to defeat the New York magnate, who in one month has placed himself with a three-point lead in the average of national polls, according to the specialized portal RealClearPolitics this Sunday.

Joe Biden was “unfit” to be a presidential candidate and “certainly unfit to serve” as president, Trump said Sunday, after the president announced he was dropping out of the race for the White House in the November elections.

“Crooked Joe Biden was unfit to run for President, and he certainly is unfit to serve — and never was! … We will suffer greatly for his Presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly,” Trump posted on his Truth Social network shortly after Biden’s announcement on Sunday.

Regarding Biden’s support for his vice president, Kamala Harris, as a possible Democratic candidate for the November 5 elections, Trump said that she will be easier to defeat than Biden would have been.

Chronicle of a resignation announced

Since the Atlanta debate, four senators and more than twenty congressmen from his own party have pressured Biden to reconsider his decision to continue in the presidential race and instead opt to “pass the torch” to a new candidate.

The president eventually gave in to pressure from the heavyweights of his party who no longer wanted him around, despite his efforts to hold on and quell the rejection of his candidacy.

Another issue to consider has been the pushback among prominent party donors who threatened to suspend contributions to Biden’s campaign, which last month ended up emptying 93 percent of the money raised after spending more than $50 million on a barrage of advertisements to change the tone of public opinion after the debate, according to figures compiled by Bloomberg.

Sources close to Biden’s campaign had already hinted earlier this week at the start of a period of reflection that coincided with the US president’s positive coronavirus test confirmed last Wednesday, in a week in which Trump has ended up monopolizing all media space after surviving an assassination attempt last weekend during a rally in Pennsylvania.
