Two drivers consecutively hit a woman

Authorities are on the trail of two drivers who consecutively hit a 79-year-old woman in Brooklyn, causing her death before fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred on New York Avenue in Crown Heights on Thursday night.

According to police, the 79-year-old woman was walking in a crosswalk on New York Avenue in Crown Heights on Thursday night when she was struck by a gray Nissan Rogue.

The driver left the scene without stopping, according to authorities. While she was lying in the roadway, police say she was hit by a second vehicle, a white Toyota minivan. The driver also fled.

“They assured me they were going to do everything they could to find the people who did this because it’s terrible,” Patrick said. “My mother was a very loving person and she didn’t deserve this. Nobody deserves this.”

Yvonne Sandiford immigrated to New York from Barbados in 1991. She had 10 children and 23 grandchildren.

Patrick said that despite the size of his family, the relationship he had with his mother was different.

“We also had the same birthday, so that brought us a lot closer,” he explains. “We had a very special bond. Very special.”

The New York police continue to search for the two drivers involved in both fatal crashes. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-57-PISTA.
