Lima.- Two earthquakes, of magnitude 4.9 and 5.1, were felt in the last few hours in southern and central Peru, with no personal or material damage reported so far, the National Institute of Civil Defense reported this Sunday ( Indeci).

The 4.9 magnitude tremor was felt at 05:46 am local time (10:46 am GMT) this Sunday in the Lima region, with an epicenter in the Coayllo district, in the Cañete province, and a depth of 125 kilometers, according to the report of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), highlighted Efe.

The earthquake reached an intensity of IV in the Calango district.

After the earthquake, the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) coordinated with local authorities, who reported that it was perceived as a slight movement by the population of the province of Cañete and in Metropolitan Lima.

First response units began monitoring vulnerable areas, with no reports of structural damage or damage to the population to date.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications also indicated that no damage was reported to communication routes or telephone services, while the Hydrography and Navigation Directorate reported that a tsunami was not generated for the Peruvian coast.

Indeci also reported that the other earthquake, of magnitude 5.1, was registered at 8:25 p.m. local time on Saturday (01:25 GMT on Sunday) with an epicenter 18 kilometers west of the Atico district, in the province of Caravelí, in the region southern Arequipa.

This movement occurred at a depth of 41 kilometers and reached an intensity of IV in Attico.

In this case, the COEN also coordinated with the local authorities, who reported that it was perceived as moderate by the population in the province of Caravelí, while in the provinces of Arequipa, Camaná, Caylloma, Condesuyos, Islay and La Unión, it was perceived as moderate. with a slight movement.

The first response units reported that there was no structural damage or damage to the population, while the Ministry of Health indicated that there were no effects on the health services and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications that no damage was reported to the communication routes or in the region’s telephone services.
