Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) came in second, with an average airfare rate of $214.87, only about $5 more than Orlando.

Tampa International Airport (TPA), another airport in the Sunshine State, managed to enter the list reaching eighth place with amounts of $328.19.

Decrease in ticket prices

Despite the variation in airfare costs between different airports, the study highlighted a 3.1 percent decrease in average airfare prices from 2022 to 2023, adjusted for inflation. Which translates to a 0.9% increase in unadjusted dollars.

In 2023, the average domestic airfare was $381.32, compared to the inflation-adjusted average of $393.14 the previous year.

The last time inflation-adjusted airfare costs fell year-over-year was during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, when they fell a notable 18% between 2019 and 2020.

This decline in airfare costs, combined with the affordability of airports like Orlando and Fort Lauderdale, offers promising news for travelers looking for affordable options. In addition to this downward trend in domestic airfare prices, Florida is establishing itself as a key hub for affordable air travel with its competitive fares.
