Monterey.- The lifeless bodies of two people of Mexican origin who apparently died in their attempt to cross the border with the United States irregularly, were located by elements of the National Institute of Migration (INM) in the Coahuila desert, north of Mexico, authorities reported Thursday.
Through a statement, the INM indicated that the events occurred when 16 compatriots were abandoned by alleged human traffickers in that place.
According to the agency, at least “12 (immigrants) crossed into the United States and four were lost in Mexican territory.”
In coordination with authorities from the three orders of government, the INM made the discovery of the deceased in the desert zone of the state of Coahuila.
“Likewise, a search deployment is maintained for two other people who are not located,” the Mexican immigration authorities specified.
According to the information, the 16 migrants tried to cross the border through the desert area between the municipalities of Cuatro Ciénegas and Ocampo; however, they were abandoned by the “polleros”, as people who are involved in the illegal trafficking of migrants are called.
Last Tuesday, the Border Patrol of the United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) informed the INM about the seizure of 12 Mexicans who are part of that group.
The insured persons reported that four of their companions had died on the road where they were abandoned and provided the approximate location for their location.
Immediately, personnel from the Beta Ciudad Acuña Group, in coordination with federal, state, and municipal authorities, set up air and ground search operations in the desert area.
On Wednesday, the INM, together with the inter-institutional search brigades, located the bodies of two migrants.
At the moment, Grupo Beta Acuña of the INM and the other authorities continue with the brigades to locate the other two missing persons.
The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, recognized on Wednesday a rebound in the migratory flow after the initial drop that caused the expiration last May of Title 42, a United States regulation that allowed the immediate expulsion of migrants due to the pandemic. .
The abandonment of migrants on highways and in desert areas of the country reflects the unprecedented migratory flow in the region, with more than 2.76 million undocumented migrants intercepted by the United States at the border with Mexico during fiscal year 2022.
