Two people were injured after an electric bike caught fire in the basement of an apartment building in the Bronx on Monday.
The blazes started at approximately 6:00 a.m. on East 187th Street at Southern Boulevard and Prospect Avenue.
The family living there, including a 10-day-old newborn baby, escaped through a back window.reported CBS New York.
Clouds of smoke filled the entire street from the lowest floor of the building.
“My nephew smelled the smoke and said he was dreaming of fire, and when he woke up, there was fire,” said a relative who came forward to help.
“They were trying to escape, but they couldn’t, because the fire was in the living room, the bathroom, everything. They escaped through the back window”.
Two people were injured, including one with Serious, non-life threatening injuries.
The fire was controlled and is under investigation.
