The dispute of the U-20 soccer world cup in Argentina, which will be played between May 20 and June 11, will generate a foreign exchange income of more than US$600 million, reported sources from the Palacio de Hacienda.

From an economic point of view, between the “investment that FIFA (International Federation of Associated Football) will make in terms of organization and an estimated arrival of 230,000 tourists, an additional impact of foreign currency income of more than US$600 million is estimated “added the source.

The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, and his Tourism counterpart, Matías Lammens, received this afternoon at the Palacio de Hacienda the highest authorities of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), led by its owner, Claudio Tapia.

At the meeting, which took place in the Belgrano Hall, the permits and endorsements requested by FIFA for the holding of this international sporting event were signed.

“We will have the opportunity to receive thousands of tourists, generate foreign exchange, work and also incorporate technology that the organizers at an international level bring to the development of this event,” said Massa during the meeting.

In this sense, he remarked that “all the decrees and guarantees that FIFA requires of us as a government have been signed, so we are ready for (once approved) it to be announced that Argentina will host the U-20 World Cup.”

In addition to Massa, Lammens and Tapia, the vice presidents of AFA, the leaders Rodolfo D’Onofrio, David Garzón, Víctor Blanco, Luciano Nakis, Pablo Toviggino, Sergio Rapisarda and Cristian Malaspina, among others, participated in the meeting.

Employment

Six provinces will receive the 24 national delegations that will play the cup, generating an important economic movement in the different regional economies, beyond the employment of about 1,200 people per game considering logistics, security and organization among other aspects.

From the Ministry of Economy they highlighted that hosting this type of global meetings benefits a new boost to incoming tourism, as a result of a high exposure of the country in the eyes of the world.

This translates into a positive contribution to the activity for several years. It is estimated that the effect would be an increase of at least 5% per year starting this year, which represents more than 360,000 new tourists per year and an increase in annual foreign exchange income of close to US$300 million.
