Uber launches new tool that allows passengers and drivers to record audio during trips

Uber, the ride-sharing company, has announced a new feature to protect both drivers and passengers.

On Wednesday, the company announced that passengers and drivers can now record audio during a trip using the app.

Before a passenger boards the vehicle, a message will appear in the app warning that the driver may be recording the audio, if that is the case.

But, if you are recording, the driver will not receive any notification.

For passengers who feel uncomfortable being recorded, Uber says they can cancel the ride.

“We are committed to creating new technologies that help make your Uber experience safer, so you can ride and drive with confidence,” the company said in a statement.

Only Uber will have access to the recordings, according to the company. However, the company stated that following a serious incident, Uber will consider providing the audio recording to the complaining party on a case-by-case basis.

The new Uber function has already existed since 2019 in Latin America and is already available in several cities in the United States, such as Miami.

In the parking lot of the Miami International Airport, the drivers who offer this service react to the news. Safety and protection against alleged false complaints is a constant topic of debate among drivers. Some first went to the cameras as a resource and now they will not hesitate to press the blue shield if they see it necessary.
