London. A British judge has sentenced Lucy Letby to spend the rest of her life in prison for the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six others while working as a neonatal nurse in the north of England.
Judge James Gross imposed the heaviest possible sentence under British law on Monday.
After 22 days of deliberations, a jury at Manchester Crown Court convicted Letby, 33, of murdering the babies during a year in which he preyed on the vulnerabilities of sick babies and their distraught parents.
The victims, including triplets, were murdered in the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital in north-west England between June 2015 and June 2016.
