A family is demanding answers after a mother died just one day after giving birth at Woodhull Medical Center.
A protest was held at the hospital on Saturday night.
According to the GoFoundMe page created by the woman’s relatives, Christine Fields, 30, gave birth to a healthy baby on the night of November 12 at that medical center but dAfter saying he was not feeling well, he died the next morning.
An independent autopsy was ordered.
New York has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the country, about 20 per 100,000 births.
Earlier this month, Governor Hochul directed the Department of Health to review maternal deaths across the state and develop strategies to protect mothers and babies.
