Russia denies that the Ukrainian army has recaptured a town in Donetsk
Vladimir Rogov, a Russian-installed official in Moscow-controlled parts of Zaporizhia, has contradicted the announcement of the seizure of the Donetsk town of Uroyaine by the Ukrainian army.
The Ukrainian army on Thursday claimed greater success in its counteroffensive against Russian forces on the southeastern front, in the Dontesk region, a day after announcing the liberation of the town of Uroyaine, which had been a Russian stronghold. Uroyaine is the first town kyiv claims to have recaptured since July 27. It is located about 100 kilometers west of the Russian city of Donetsk.
Rogov has stated that Uroyiane and the neighboring village of Staromaiorske are not under Ukrainian control. Through Telegram, he also assured that Russian forces had stopped a Ukrainian offensive towards the town of Robotyne, in the Zaporizhia region, west of Urozhane, on Thursday morning.
For his part, Ukrainian military spokesman Andri Kovalev has also reported fierce fighting in the northeastern Kharkiv region and around an eastern town not far from Bakhmut, the city occupied by Russian forces in May after months of bloody fighting. “The enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Senkivka in the Kharkov region and Bohdanivka in Donetsk. There are serious fighting here”, he declared.
“In the direction of Bakhmut, the (Ukrainian) defensive forces continue to carry out offensive actions.”
A Ukrainian general said Wednesday that Russia was attacking towards Kupiansk, a city in the Kharkov region, but Kovalev said Ukraine was holding them back, as well as Russian assaults north of Bakhmut and near the city of Lyman. (Reuters)
