According to the UN, the ongoing fighting in Sudan has forced more than 330,000 people to flee within the country since mid-April. A spokesman for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said in Geneva today.

According to estimates by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 800,000 people could flee the heavy fighting in Sudan to neighboring countries. “We hope it doesn’t come to that, but if the violence doesn’t stop, more people will be forced to flee Sudan for safety,” UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi wrote on Twitter.

The UNHCR is preparing with governments and partners for a possible wave of refugees.
