From the Social Commitment area, Universidad Panamericana seeks to contribute to the common good of society by forming true awareness and social responsibility in studentsthat contributes to the solution of specific problems, in search of a greater benefit for the community.

One of the axes in which the Panamericana tries to join efforts is in the construction of houses to support families from vulnerable communities. It is for this purpose that from the UP Volunteer Workshop, after the earthquake of September 19, 2017, work hand in hand with Dibujando otra realidad ACa civil association that provides help to families residing in the Chinampas areas of Xochimilco.

Drawing another reality AC seeks to help all those who need it, especially those who live in marginalization or poverty. Precisely about the support that this CA receives from the Panamericana, the Lic. Viviana Sarzadirector of the institution, explains: “For years we have been working with them (students and collaborators of the Panamericana) and They help us a lot, they donate to us, they give us hands and that is how we are achieving improvements (of house and constructions). (…) when the Universidad Panamericana comes, the improvement is seen, because there are many hands helping”.

Lucila Vallejo, mother of seven children and beneficiary of the CA, affirms: “I am happy that these young people support us. (The help of these guys) gives you a reason to keep trying”.

Lucila says that, although she has lived the little house that the UP volunteers helped her build for four or more years, sometimes she still finds it hard to believe in her fortune: “Sometimes I wonder if I’m not dreaming and I pinch myself. (…) I want to thank the Universidad Panamericana for all the support they have given us”it states.

Since the UP Volunteer workshop began to collaborate with “Drawing another reality”, the following results have been obtained:

  • +20 houses have been built in the areas of San Gregorio and San Marcos in the chinampas of Xochimilco.
  • It has been benefited +200 people.
  • +10 chicken coops have been built so that families have an extra income and can be self-sustaining.

The Social Commitment area of ​​the Universidad Panamericana has the mission of developing activities that generate better living conditions in the adopted communities; as well as to meet basic subsistence and development requirements in terms of food, clothing and housing, whose beneficiaries are people in need, regions with scarce resources, indigenous communities and vulnerable groups.
