Unstable weather with the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in the region

Our weather remains unsettled and warm as we enter a new week and head into the 4th of July holiday.

Early morning rain will leave clouds and patchy mist in its wake, although rays of sunshine are likely in the early afternoon in many places.

With highs in the 80s (70s) in the Cape there will be enough instability in the atmosphere to unleash thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.

Not every community will see a storm, but the risk is there, particularly from 1:00 to 9:00 pm One or two isolated storms may reach severe thresholds, with gusty winds, small hail, and localized flooding the main threats.

You must have a place to take refuge if necessary. On Independence Day, an area of low pressure will move in, which will once again serve as a trigger for showers and storms, as early as mid-morning and persistent into the afternoon.

Brief showers and lightning will be possible. Not that the festivities should be cancelled, but it’s another day to keep an eye on the weather and warnings.

The good news is that the remaining showers and thunderstorms for the night should lessen both in intensity and coverage between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, leaving a calmer radar just in time for the fireworks celebrations.

The only area to watch is Cape Cod, where the front is slower to move away from the coast and may cause some prolonged showers there.
