The so-called ‘Tama of Lima’, called last week by the violent groups that devastate the country, has reminded me of the bloody ‘armed strikes’ that Shining Path called back in the fateful eighties and nineties, which many have already forgotten.

The mournful acts that occurred on Thursday and Fridayin the capital and in other parts of the country, are a copy of the actions that the terrorist group undertook when it made this type of similar calls.

The attack with explosives and the burning of seven police stations in the south of the country (in one of them the police had to be rescued in a helicopter so as not to burn to death), the attacks on public offices, the blockade of 150 highways, the failed assaults on the Juliaca, Arequipa and Cusco airports, and the burning of the Marcionelli building in the very center of Lima, they are not protests, as some colleagues and left-wing politicians who supported the coup call them Pedro Castillo. They are terrorist acts!

In each ‘armed strike’, Path paralyzed almost the entire country. It took the Central Highway, high tension towers, hydroelectric plants, universities (San Marcos was its stronghold) and human settlements. In July 1989, during one of these 24-hour strikes, the terrorists carried out 24 attacks with deaths, demonstrating their logistical and financial capacity.

Maria Elena Moyano

The senderista sect takes advantage of these strikes to commit selective crimes. In one of them, which occurred in February 1992, he assassinated María Elena Moyano, a 33-year-old leader who was deputy mayor of Villa El Salvador. Moyano confronted them and called a March for Peace, which was supported by hundreds of the residents of that thriving town, who took to the streets together with her.

“Despite their threats, the strike has failed. The population has gone to work,” he said. moyano after that glorious day. Those were his last words. The next day, an assassination squad of fifteen Senderistas brutally murdered her in front of her two youngest children.

Once they shot him they left, but then they came back. They dragged his lifeless body to the street and blew it up with two kilos of dynamite. Five days later, they also dynamited his grave. His family had to leave the country and take refuge in a foreign country. I remember that like it was yesterday.

As is happening now, the terrorists were never interested in a democratic exit from the governments in power, much less did they have solutions or plans in favor of the population. They tried to instill fear and prepared the ground for a great insurrectionary coup and to seize power.

The ‘Taking of Lima’ He has also tried to do that: instill fear in President Dina Boluarte herself, who at times is hesitant, but on Thursday gave a firm speech in defense of democracy and the sacrificial work of our Police. See you the other Tuesday.
