A suburban Chicago man is facing charges after accidentally shooting himself during a sleep, authorities said Tuesday.

According to NBC 10 Philadelphia, Lake County officers responded to a call at the Lake Barrington home before 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Shoreline Road, where a 62-year-old man, identified as Mark Dicara, had been shot in his leg.

Authorities applied a tourniquet to his leg “since he was losing a lot of blood.”

“Investigation revealed that Dicara had a dream that someone was breaking into his home,” authorities said in a statement.

“He took his .357 Magnum Revolver and shot who he believed to be the intruder. When he fired, he fired at his body and apparently woke up from his sleep.

The bullet was found between the sheets and “fortunately, it did not go through the wall to his neighbors,” police said.

Dicara was taken to a hospital to have his wound treated.

Police said Dicara had an expired permit for the weapon and was charged with possession of a weapon without the proper permit and firing it. He was arrested on Monday and released after posting bail.
