The United States and South Korea have announced on Monday the holding of joint military exercises for next week and in the midst of a hardening of North Korea’s warmongering discourse.
“Ulchi Freedom Shield 23 exercises are designed to be more realistic and tough to strengthen the combined defense posture and response capabilities of the alliance based on scenarios that reflect various threats within the security environment and lessons learned from wars and conflicts. recent,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) declared in a statement collected by the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The annual Ulchi Freedom Shield maneuvers are scheduled to begin on August 21 and end on the 31st, which will include computer simulation-based contingency drills, simultaneous field training, civil defense drills, and responses against terrorism and cyberattacks.
The Korean peninsula has been experiencing an increase in tensions in recent months due to both the joint military exercises between Washington and Seoul and the continuous launching of missiles by Pyongyang.
