These documents which have been disseminated on social networks could prove invaluable for Moscow, revealing the extent to which the American intelligence services have penetrated parts of the Russian military apparatus, analyzes the American media.

The United States is trying to assess the risks of leaking classified documents, which include the Russian invasion of Ukraine, to its national security, the Pentagon said on Sunday.

This leak of secret documents, revealed last week by the New York Timesrelates in particular to assessments and reports of the American intelligence services related to the war in Ukraine, but also to the allies of the United States.

“Inter-agency cooperation has been initiated to assess the impact that (the leak of) these photographed documents may have on national security and on our allies and partners,” Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said.

Open investigation

The Ministry of Justice, which opened an investigation on Saturday, is trying to identify the source of the leaks and is still examining the validity of the documents released.

According to the Washington Post, citing US officials, some appear to have been doctored. But most correspond to CIA reports circulating at the White House, the Pentagon or the State Department, says the same source.

Especially since some documents contain information relating to countries allied with the United States.

One of them, for example, highlighted government discussions in South Korea on the possibility of supplying American artillery shells to Ukraine, according to the New York Times.
