US city records 32 days in a row with temperatures above 100 degrees

EL PASO, Texas- Triple-digit temperature extremes remain in the region, now tallying 32 consecutive days of intense heat over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

The El Paso National Weather Service announced on July 11 that this region broke a record not seen since 1887, exceeding the maximum seen of 26 days in the history of the meteorological record.

“Today marks the 26th consecutive day El Paso has reached or exceeded 100 degrees, the longest consecutive streak since record-keeping began in 1887,” they said in a statement that day.

Starting this Monday, another hot week will be present for the border from 101 to 109 degrees Fahrenheit in the El Paso region.

Given the situation, the El Paso Fire Department and the Office of Emergency Management released several tips to avoid heat stroke and any health incident related to dehydration.

TIPS FOR EXTREME HEAT

  • Never leave a child, adult, or animal alone in a vehicle on a hot day.
  • Find places with air conditioning. Libraries, shopping malls, and community centers can provide a cool place to take a break from the heat.
  • If you are outside, seek shade.
  • Wear a hat wide enough to protect your face.
  • Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. If you or someone you care for is on a special diet, ask a doctor how best to adjust it.
  • Do not use electric fans when the outside temperature is above 95 degrees, as this could increase the risk of heat-related illness. Fans create airflow and a false sense of comfort, but they do not reduce body temperature.
  • Avoid high energy activities.
  • Check your family and neighbors for signs of heat-related illness.
