The crew of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Cutter Manowar rescued two Cuban migrants on Cay Sal Bank and transported them to the Bahamas this Friday.

The rescue occurred after an aerial team from the United States Customs and Border Protection Office (CBPAMO) sighted the stranded migrants, who were waving a white flag in a distress signal.

Through its official X social network account, @USCGSoutheast urged migrants not to risk their lives by undertaking dangerous sea crossings.

Despite the restrictions imposed by the US government to curb illegal migration, which include denying the right to request asylum for those who enter irregularly, Cubans continue to try to reach the United States by sea.

This phenomenon reflects the desperation of many to escape the repression and misery they face in Cuba.

The transfer of migrants to the Bahamas underlines the policy of interception on the high seas and repatriation of US authorities, who seek to deter dangerous journeys that often end in tragedy.
