After serious fighting broke out between young people in the US city of Baltimore over the Easter weekend, the city’s mayor now wants to draw severe consequences. Around 200 young people are said to have fought in the Inner Harbor on Sunday evening.

As the police tried to break up the fighting, shots were probably fired. Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said two teenagers were injured. A 14 year old and a 16 year old. Both are said to have been taken to hospitals. One of them is in critical but stable condition, the other is stable, it said media reports.

Mayor Brandon Scott responded to the controversy with a radical announcement. The young people of Baltimore should therefore feel transported back to the Corona period this summer.

Baltimore: Mayor Scott plans summer curfews

The mayor is planning a limited curfew for young people in the coming summer months. For example, under 14-year-olds should no longer be allowed to go outside after 9 p.m. and under-17-year-olds must be at home after 10 p.m. The broadcaster reported WJZ-TV.

Scott announced he wanted to go back to the “old days”. As late as the late 1990s, many US cities still had after-dark curfews for youth. In some places, adolescents were even forbidden to roam freely during the day during school hours. This was reported by the “Taz” 1999.

The newspaper also referred to many youths who were in prison at the time. And for the most absurd reasons: School skipping hookups, disregarding curfews, annoying neighbors with phone calls, the newspaper lists.

At those times Scott probably doesn’t want to go back. What the Democrats are about, is not just “to get them off the streets, but also to support them and find out what’s going on with them and their families.” The mayor has too many small ones Kinder seen too far from home late at night, he says.

It is important to him that young People enjoy the Inner Harbor safely – “we will not allow young people to be shot if they are out here alone,” he declared at the press conference.
