USCIS announces increase in fees for several immigration forms

FLORIDA — He United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced an adjustment to priority processing fees for several immigration forms due to inflation.

The agency reported that the decision was made in accordance with the USCIS Stabilization Act, which allows the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to make adjustments every two years to reflect inflation.

Rates, which have remained unchanged for three years, will be adjusted to reflect average inflation from June 2021 to June 2023, based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers.

According to the release, the adjustment to priority processing fees significantly impacts several key forms used in the immigration process. Among them, Form I-129, used for petitions from nonimmigrant workers; Form I-140, intended for petitions for foreign immigrant workers; Form I-539, for extension/change of nonimmigrant status; and Form I-765 for employment authorization.

Implementation of these new fees will go into effect on February 26, 2024. The agency warned that any Form I-907 postmarked after this date and with an incorrect fee will be rejected, returning the filing fee to the sender.

The revenue generated by this adjustment will be used to improve priority processing services, make improvements to the adjudication processes, and address adjudication demands, with the goal of reducing delays in processing benefit applications. USCIS also plans to fund adjudication and naturalization services with these revenues.

It is crucial to note that priority processing is only available for specific benefits when USCIS announces it on its website.
