Mexico City.- After the new accident in the Mexico City Metro that caused one death and 16 injuries, the Va por México alliance of the PAN, PRI and PRD in the Chamber of Deputies assured that they will request the appearance of the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbuam, to explain “the alarming situation” of this collective transport.

“The total neglect in the maintenance and activities of a system that is becoming a deadly transport for more than five million people is evident,” the coalition said in a statement.

The leaders of the PAN benches, Jorge Romero Herrera; from the PRI, Rubén Moreira, and from the PRD, Luis E. Cházaro reported that they will request Sheinbaum’s appearance before the Political Coordination Board, chaired by Morena.

“Given the alarming situation of the Collective Transportation System-Metro so far in its management,” they said.

The coordinators recalled other tragedies that occurred during the Sheinbuam government: the wagon crash in Tacubaya in 2020, which left one person dead and 41 injured; the fire at the Metro Control Center in January 2021; the collapse of the elevated bridge of Line 12 in May, also 2021, with 26 people dead and more than 80 injured.

“(All this) makes the official appear to explain what happens in this infrastructure,” they said.

The national president of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, affirmed that it is necessary to restore the Capital Fund -which was extinguished in 2021- to invest it in the maintenance of the Metro lines.

“Five billion pesos that in 2024 would be allocated to the review and improvement of the 195 stations,” Moreno said on his Twitter account.

The opposition also criticized Sheinbaum for not having been present in the Capital at the time of the accident. The Head of Government had scheduled an event in Michoacán to talk about “Successful Government Policies.”
