A part of vampire survivors always ends the same way: in death. But we’re going to help you survive as long as possible.
vampire survivors has quickly become your new gaming drug. You started a first game to see, without believing it too much, and since then it’s been escalating: you’ve been trying at a frantic pace, out of thirst for gold or simply wanting to kill thousands of monsters in record time. Only problem? You fail to reach the 30 minutes required to end a session (spoiler: a victory still ends in death).
Under its simplistic looks (after all, we must only move), vampire survivors actually hides a form of complexity. To triumph, you will have to fail, learn and start over. You may be afraid of never succeeding, but don’t panic, there are keys to triumphing regularly. And keep in mind that success breeds success in Vampire Survivors.
Tips for triumphing in Vampire Survivors
Which weapons to choose?
In vampire survivors, the use of weapons is automatic, which means that your character attacks on its own. You still have the choice of the arsenal. With each level gained (by collecting rubies), you unlock a weapon, an accessory or an improvement. At first, we grope, because we don’t really know what the effects of the different objects are. For example, it is not recommended to focus only on weapons that only attack in one direction, as enemies tend to come from everywhere. We will rather favor weapons that have area effects. Beware, moreover, of weapons that attack in a random direction (examples: the Rod of Fire and the Ring of Lightning). As first choices, they are not recommended.
About us, we particularly appreciate Garlic, which creates a circle around you (and allows you to rush on weak enemies without batting an eyelid), and the King’s Bible – which experiences real progress when you make it evolve. The Whip, inspired by the Castlevania saga, is a bit disappointing (except in super-weapon mode, but we’ll get to that), as is the axe. The Dagger, for its part, is rather effective from the moment you can throw several (be careful, always in the same direction).
On paper, a weapon like the Pentagram, which destroys absolutely everything on screen, is formidable. It is actually difficult to use since it can deprive you of many resources (which pass through it at the same time as the enemies).
Note that you can carry up to six weapons at a time in vampire survivors. During your first games, mix as much as possible and experiment. Some will be successful, some will not.
Understanding Weapon Evolutions and Combinations
Each weapon can reach level 8. Better, a weapon can evolve by being combined with a dedicated accessory. To get a super weapon, you need:
- Evolve the base weapon to level 8;
- Choose the object associated with it at least once (no need to evolve it);
- Open the chest of a boss (it may also be wise to delay its opening, the time to have completed the first two steps).
Superweapons are truly the price of glory in vampire survivors. If you manage to get at least three of them in a single game (six in total), then you should triumph without any worries. Even the disappointing basic weapons become real means of winning, once evolved to their maximum (even the Axe…). For example, the Whip, combined with a Heart Vessel, will turn into the Tear of Blood — a weapon that will heal you when it hits. The Dagger, on the other hand, can turn into a thousand and one blades thanks to the Armband (which increases the speed of attacks) – literally a machine gun of knives. With a super weapon, you become a superhero. With multiple super weapons, you become an almighty God.
To fully understand this system, it is essential to know the right elements to associate (that is to say by multiplying the parts). Our capture below will save you some time:
Avoid defensive objects
In vampire survivors, the best defense is attack. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid items that make your character less vulnerable (more life, life regeneration, armor, protection…). Unless they’re related to a weapon you chose earlier (to get the superweapon). There lies the complexity of the gameplay: some good choices can lead to making bad ones, which will end up becoming good choices when everything goes well.
Collect the Relics
Some levels of vampire survivors conceal more or less useful secrets. There are in particular Relics, powerful objects that give access to permanent bonuses or improvements (example: the map). When a level has Relics, it is indicated in the selection menu. Once in the level, follow the green arrows.
Use Arcane Option
One of the most interesting relics is called the Randomazzo, which is found in the Tower of Gallo (the fourth level). Behind this name hides a system of random modifiers that can really make your job easier. To take advantage of it, you must unlock each of the cards that make up the Randomazzo, then select one at the start of each attempt (you may get a second if you survive long enough).
For example, Awakening allows you to resurrect three times, while making you more powerful with each resurrection. It is not negligible in the final stretch. Each card requires you to complete an objective visible in the ‘Success’ tab of the game. Thus, to access Awakening, you must reach level 50 with the character named Krochi. Tip: consulting the ‘Achievements’ tab allows you to set interesting goals to improve and unlock even more content.
How to use your money?
Collected gold coins are kept even after a failure. They can be spent to unlock new heroes or buy permanent bonuses. Again, permanent bonuses can be defensive or offensive in nature (favor the first option). At the beginning, invest quickly in ‘Expertise’ (which allows you to gain more experience) and ‘Quantity’ (which adds a projectile to all weapons): these two bonuses will allow you to survive longer, therefore to always gain more money (to buy other bonuses). The heroes are not to be neglected either: embodying them allows you to unlock other weapons and objects.
To conclude :
- Avoid defensive options;
- Unlock the Randomazzo to access the Arcane option;
- Invest the money in the appropriate bonuses (experience and strike force);
- Understand the weapon evolution system to obtain a maximum of super-weapons during a single game (from three);
- Be patient (your first games will inevitably be failures).
