CARACAS.- The ONG Criminal Forum presented a new balance of the repression of the Nicolás Maduro regime recorded in Venezuela during the protest following the presidential elections on July 28.

The Capital District, in Caracas, has the highest number of arrests with 151, followed by the states of Carabobo with 136, Anzoátegui, 109; Miranda with 74 and Zulia with 59.

The escalation of repression affects protesters, activists, human rights defenders and journalists. The Penal Forum recalled that on August 2, Kennedy Tejeda, a lawyer and human rights defender from the NGO, was arrested. He was arrested by officials of the National Guard “and allegedly transferred to the General Directorate of National Counterintelligence” (Dgcim) “when he was investigating the situation of some detainees protesting at the GN command in Montalbán, in the state of Carabobo.”

This Sunday, August 4, Republican Senator Marco Rubio repudiated the repression of the Chavista regime. “While the narco-regime of Maduro sells the world a fraudulent victory, the reality is that its machinery of repression does not stop. There are more than 930 arrests in Venezuela, including 90 teenagers. Defending the vote is not a crime.

On Saturday, August 3, during a political event, Nicolás Maduro reiterated that this time there will be “complete justice” in Venezuela. He also confirmed the number of people arrested in the context of the protests following the presidential elections.

“We have 2,000 prisoners captured and from there they go to (the prisons) Tocorón and Tocuyito, maximum punishment, justice. This time there will be no forgiveness, this time there will be no forgiveness, this time there will be Tocorón,” he said. A few days ago, he said that these common prisons are being reconditioned to hold “terrorists” and that they will be ready in less than 15 days.

However, the country is facing a hospital crisis, with Venezuelans repeatedly pointing out that there are no supplies and that the conditions in health centers are inhumane, but the regime excuses itself with the “blockade.”
