The National Autonomous University of Mexico once again takes us on an unforgettable journey on the big screen… The UNAM International Film Festival is practically ready to take place and as always, everything looks spectacular for yet another edition of the event. So that you do not miss a single detail, we bring you the information of the venues, dates and all the information about FICUNAM 13.

The dates and venues for FICUNAM 13

If there is a space that encourages the seventh art in our country like no other, that is the UNAM International Film Festival. And now, the people behind the festival return to the charge with the same emotion as always, ready to put great cinematographic works at our fingertips.

FICUNAM 13 will take place from June 1 to 11, both in person and in different digital media. Those who reside in the CDMX or nearby, will be able to approach venues such as the University Cultural Center, the Chopo Cinematograph, the Casa del Lago, the National Cinematheque, the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, Tonalá Cinema and the MUACamong other venues.

And in case you don’t have a chance to hit one of these places in the capital, don’t worry. The festival will also share content and part of its programming on open TV channels such as Channel 22, on TV UNAM, as well as streaming platforms such as MUBI for all Latin America.

How much can we see at FICUNAM 13? Well, that year the UNAM International Film Festival will bring to the public 42 titles that will be in competition. And the thing doesn’t end there, eh…

we will have more than 60 premieres, 5 retrospectives, the El Público del Futuro seminar, workshops, conferences and more… The activities start on Thursday June 1 in the Miguel Covarrubias Hall of the University Cultural Center. There, the film will be screened at 7:00 PM sharp Orlando, my political biographyopera prima by Paul B. Preciado.

Exhibitions and retrospectives at FICUNAM 13

FICUNAM 13 activities also include various exhibitions and various retrospectives. In this sense, the festival will once again bring us the section Thresholds, this as a space for national and international avant-garde cinemawith experimental tapes of 35 mm and 16 mm, among others.

In turn, Thresholds is broken down through other categories such as Thresholds 0, Thresholds 5, Threshold – Saodat Ismailova, Threshold Expanded and Umbral 0.2 x Síntesis, the latter as a printed and digital publication that will collect the experience of the creatives of this exhibition when working on their films. The Atlas exhibition will arrive at FICUNAM 13 to show us the best of independent cinema around the world. Here, we will have 35 films at our disposal among which stand out Afire (Germany), When the Waves Are Gone (Denmark-France), Scarlet (France-Italy-Germany), Maid (Mexico-Argentina), among others. And the Retrospectives? In this edition, we will have a journey through the filmography of filmmakers and other figures: Impious Devotion: the cinema of Albert Serra, Saodat Ismailova – The Haunted Look, Destroy Says: the cinema of Marguerite Duras, Insurrection and Lightness – the films of Kinuyo Tanaka and the Cine Mujer Collective: The act of showing are the retrospectives for this year.
