Video of deadly police confrontation at Diamond Bar revealed

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released images of a shootout between officers of that police force and a man armed with a rifle in Diamond Bar.

The incident occurred on June 19.around 11:30 a.m., in the 2900 block of Crooked Creek Drive in that community in eastern Los Angeles County.

Officers responded to a report of a man walking calmly down the street wearing a bulletproof vest and firing into the air with a rifle.

Officers responded to a report that a man, believed to be wearing a bulletproof vest, had fired a shot using an assault rifle.

The officers tried to coax the man, identified as Benjamin Chin, to put the gun down. Even his mother joined the request.

Chin had argued with his mother before the confrontation and had stabbed her. When officers arrived, they found her bleeding. Even so, she asked the officers not to shoot her.

The officers continued to insist until Chin approached a stopped car. Disobeying orders to lay down the weapon, the officers opened fire. The man collapsed on the third shot.

Chin was taken to the hospital where he died shortly after. His mother was also hospitalized to treat his stab wounds.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine if department rules were followed.
