The Women’s Soccer World Cup in Australia and New Zealand 2023 is already reaching its final phase and the favorite teams have been left outthe last being the United States, the defending champion team.
The United States women’s soccer team fell by the wayside at the hands of Sweden and on penalties, being left out in the round of 16 for the first time in their history.
Sweden advanced to the quarterfinals, an instance to which Spain, Japan and the Netherlands had already qualified.
Japan beat Norway 3-1, while Spain thrashed Switzerland 5-1 to seal their ticket to the quarterfinals.
In this way, teams that were favorites to reach the last stages of the World Cup, such as the United States, Brazil, Canada, Germany or Norway, disappointed and they will have to watch from home how another team will lift the World Cup trophy.
The round of 16 phase ends on Tuesday, August 8 with the matches of England vs. Nigeria, Columbia vs. Jamaica, Australia vs. Denmark and France vs. Morocco.
So far the quarterfinal crosses are as follows: Spain vs. Netherlands and Japan vs. Sweden.
