HASAt least 27 people were injured on Saturday when part of a stand collapsed on supporters at a sports hall south of Cairo during a basketball game, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

Part of the bleachers of the Hassan Mostafa Hall, located in the suburb of October 6, collapsed on spectators, injuring 27 people, some of whom suffered fractures, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar.

He said “most suffered from non-life threatening injuries”. The Egyptian Basketball Federation has decided to interrupt the match between two local teams.

More than 20 ambulances were dispatched to the scene to evacuate the injured to hospitals, the ministry added. The Hassan Mostafa room was opened two years ago.
