A video shows the aftermath of a brutal accident that occurred on the Florida Turnpike on Sunday night that left one person seriously injured.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred around 9:52 p.m. Sunday in the southbound lanes of the Turnpike, in the Killian Parkway area, in Miami- Dade, where a white Toyota SUV lost control and crashed into the wall of a concrete barrier bridge.
The vehicle then veered off the road onto a grassy embankment, where it overturned multiple times, the FHP said.
A video shared by the Only in Dade account shows a massive police presence and the completely destroyed white SUV on the side of the road along with a few other crashed vehicles. And another video obtained by Telemundo 51 shows several people standing in the area while first responders remained on the scene.
There were a total of six occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash and one of the occupants, an adult female, was thrown and suffered serious injuries, authorities said.
“I saw the paramedics come and they were all here. It seemed like a lot of people were involved,” a witness told Telemundo 51’s sister channel NBC6. “It was very scary, so I just pray everyone is okay.”
As a result of the initial crash, three additional crashes occurred in the area and only minor injuries were reported.
The southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed during the preliminary investigation and traffic was diverted onto Kendall Drive. Hours later the road was reopened.
