The general director of Culture and Education of the province of Buenos Aires, Alberto Sileoni, was speaking today in La Plata at a press conference on the status of the gas and heating installations in the district’s schools, it was officially reported.

The head of Buenos Aires Education was present in the Albergucci Hall of the headquarters of the portfolio, located at 13 between 56 and 57 of the city of La Plata.

Sileoni said that “in the beginning we found a management that did not have much data. We have a province with more than 10,600 school buildings where some 16,000 educational institutions operate,” he said.

As he specified, “in 2020 there were around 1,967 buildings with medium or deep gas problems or directly with the gas cut off. This is close to 20 percent of the buildings.”

“By 2023 we have significantly reduced the gas problem in schools. We currently have 120 buildings with 1.1 percent gas problems,” said the official.

Regarding the situation in La Plata, the minister pointed out that “it is the second district, after the Massacre, that has been prioritized.”

“With La Plata we have signed an act on February 28, which is 41.5 million pesos for the gas issue,” he said.

“With the district we are distributing the schools. The district prioritized 80 schools with complexities. In addition, we have made an addendum of 100 million pesos,” he said.

As he stated, in La Plata “there are complexities, there was a lot of disinvestment. We thank the district because we are working together with a lot of investment to solve all the problems.”

Regarding the amounts transferred to the City, he maintained that “you only have to submit the works for the money to be available. This is what we ask of all the districts, to submit the items and the works. The money has no delay in arriving “.

The Buenos Aires educational system is the largest in the country and has more than 5 million students: 678,814 initial level; 1,766,897 in primary, 1,709,160 in secondary, 276,610 in higher education and 717,346 in other modalities.

Throughout the territory there are 430,000 teachers and 80,000 assistants who work in 21,000 schools distributed in the 135 municipalities: kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, higher education spaces and other types of institutions.
